The difference in an elitist and a die-hard Imo is like you say @Ceri0n the attitude.

A die-hard might see someone spamming a spread needle and get annoyed by the DMC but will hold frustrations to themselves. They will then politely teach/explain. ''Hey bro; don't mean to call you out or anything but just so you know using a spread needle can cause a lot of DMC, ofc your free to use them all you wish, idm at all, but if you're able to use a charge arms instead it will benefit the party!'' Which would then result in them asking what DMC is and then having that explained in a polite and nice manor etc

While an elitist will talk down to the person as if they are superior (regardless of whether they are) and talk smack to them, make them feel bad for it. ''Dude wtf are you doing using spread needle''

It may take twice as much time and effort to be polite and explain stuff properly but some people have their heads so far up their asses they think they can say or do what they want to others; these are elitists. And obviously, everyone can all get frustrated and snap from time to time; not to mention sometimes a language barrier and appear one way or the other. But an elitist is like that almost all the time while a die-hard rarely ever is.

tldr

Diehard =//= Skilled Player
Elitist =//= Skilled Asshole

Neither necessarily associated with having wealth though even if that is usually the case. The word ''Veteran'' can also be misleading. A veteran is a person who has played the game for a long time, or from a long time ago. Someone who played in DC is a veteran but they might know less than 1% of the game. I don't think the word casual is a bad thing. Both elitists and casuals can call each other so as a premise that it is an insult but that doesn't mean either is a bad thing to be called. I have been called both and all from different varieties of people and at the end of the day, it's whatever. I am who I am, wherever that belongs. Just enjoy the game, because we're all here because of our love for it!

If anything, I'd call myself a Veteran Casual.

On the other hand:

The Bartle Test of Gamer Psychology
You are 67% Socialiser

What Bartle says:

♥ Socialisers are interested in people, and what they have to say. The game is merely a backdrop, a common ground where things happen to players. Inter-player relationships are important: empathising with people, sympathising, joking, entertaining, listening; even merely observing people play can be rewarding - seeing them grow as individuals, maturing over time. Some exploration may be necessary so as to understand what everyone else is talking about, and points-scoring could be required to gain access to neat communicative spells available only to higher levels (as well as to obtain a certain status in the community). Killing, however, is something only ever to be excused if it's a futile, impulsive act of revenge, perpetrated upon someone who has caused intolerable pain to a dear friend. The only ultimately fulfilling thing is not how to rise levels or kill hapless drips; it's getting to know people, to undertand them, and to form beautiful, lasting relationships.

My category is casual with loads of experience.

You are 67% Explorer
What Bartle says:

♠ Explorers delight in having the game expose its internal machinations to them. They try progressively esoteric actions in wild, out-of-the-way places, looking for interesting features (ie. bugs) and figuring out how things work. Scoring points may be necessary to enter some next phase of exploration, but it's tedious, and anyone with half a brain can do it. Killing is quicker, and might be a constructive exercise in its own right, but it causes too much hassle in the long run if the deceased return to seek retribution. Socialising can be informative as a source of new ideas to try out, but most of what people say is irrelevant or old hat. The real fun comes only from discovery, and making the most complete set of maps in existence.

Hmm... I was quite negative about the elitists. That is true. Reading your reply you might have a different understanding of what an elitist is from mine because they are defined by their attitude in my view, not (just) their level of skill. So what is an elitist according to your view so I can tweak the post in a more positive direction. I guess my tone of voice has to be tuned there (instead of having a battle of definitions because that would not get any of us anywhere).

The Die-hards can get annoyed ofcourse (like everyone else here) but are mostly defined by their skill instead of their attitude. At least, that is the way I describe them. Being way better than anyone else means you are more susceptible being angry towards lesser players doing stupid shit. This does not mean you show your annoyance all the time or that there is anything wrong with you personality wise because that is only a natural thing.

So I was negative on about 10% of the population (which is a really rough estimation and there could easily be less of them) and according to your interpretation (and according to some other people perhaps as well) also about the Die-hard, since it was not my intention to be negative about them. I just wanted to point out de differences.

You also said that the elitists weren't harsh on you. I've played with you and I know you are a pretty skilled player ;) , they simple don't have any reason to do so.
i didnt forget about this but i have no idea how to describe it different to match everyone, its kinda ok like this i guess and the discussion is already dead, so...maybe i took it a bit to serious, but glad that you would been willing to edit the post for me. keep going like that, seems you a passionate pso player *thumbs up* ;)
