Removal of Classic drop style and penalty to PSO2 drop style, January 15th, 2018

I was up all night trying to research wtf an Ashura mag cell was when I came across this not so old Ultima event thread (which I ended up meticulously reading through to the last letter) and realized how much even more I appreciate and love Ephinea! This thing is chalked full of the writing on Ultima's walls of how donations cause corruption and eventual collapse out of laziness among GMs and the corresponding frustration/depression among the community!
It really is an epic thread but I'll link you to the second to the last page even though you really should read through the whole thing for the full effect of what I'm saying if you have the time!

I thank you for this update!
Ephinea is passion.
Unbridled passion.

So why exactly did you have to remove the classic drop? Now me and my friend don't want to play together because we don't like the new drop system. We are going to have to start from scratch again on another server if we want to play with the original drops... It would be nice if you could explain more why you decided to remove the old. We have 2 level 160ish characters that are now down the drain.

How does removing classic drops flush your characters down the drain? You each get your own items now!

what i want to know is why it's suddenly a problem almost a month into the change

I was talking to someone else about this and they broke it down so it made sense. It's about rarity/scarcity. The desire to find unique drops is minimized by the prevalence of additional drops.
Think about it like this, if you and a group of friends are walking down the street and see a dollar (pound? euro?) on the street and you pick it up, that feels special. Must be your lucky day, right? But if you see one, and so does the next buddy, and the next, and the next, then it's no longer your lucky day, it's just one of those days where people suck at keeping cash in their wallets.
Not saying I agree, I'm with Oprah on this like "you get a dollar, you get a dollar, FAKKEN ERRBODY GINNA DALLA TADAY", but I understand where they are coming from.
Correct me if I'm wrong @MrBlack

^^ That is exactly what I am talking about. This game revolves around rares once you hit a certain point. Devaluing them really sucks as a player. Like when I get an item that I've been waiting for for years, now I feel like I didn't really earn it because the drop rates have essentially doubled because we each get a chance to get it. (I could be wrong about that but you get the point.)

There seems to be some confusion on this thread.
On the one hand, people such as Anime believe there should be a penalty for pso2 drops based on player number.
On the other hand, some want classic drops back. However people seem to be unable to tell the difference.

You do realise that classic drops do not mean that the item that drops is yours (unless soloing) since it drops for everyone in the party. It just means whoever can snipe it first gets it. Pso2 actually means it is uniquely your drop.

90%+ of the server want pso2 drops at 100% dar rate (hbr has been adjusted accordingly). There should not be a penalty for people wanting to play together, especially due to skill levels and gear vastly varying on this server. Other servers have pso2 drop rates increasing over 100% based on player number.

As it was on this server before the pso2 dar penalty was removed, solomode became too strong. Enemies melt with hell, you have 0 dar penalty and all drops are your own (I hunted HS for one month in November, 15 Heaven Strikers dropped for other people in my games; I got 0. I was recommended by many people to play solomode to ensure that I get the drops myself).

Solomode should not be incentivised over multimode; people should be encouraged to play with each other. Lower levels should not be made to feel they are hindering parties by joining, contributing little, lowering the dar and potentially getting all the good drops themselves.

If people want to play on classic, I see no issue with that. I think initially classic was removed simply because the GM's anticipated people would not want to play on classic with pso2 dar being at 100% (But I do not know for sure).
But I strongly feel that pso2 dar should remain at 100%, regardless of player number (especially now multiboxing is a bannable offence).

Yeah, I think their preference was to reapply DAR penalty to PSO2, but since 100% DAR is preferable to most, the easier alt was to bring back classic, and they would play together there.

I am playing with just a couple of friends and when we hunt for items, we give the item that we are going for to the person it belongs. Not everyone is extremely rare hungry and snipes items. Giving everyone in the party a chance to drop that item now means that more or less my rate is doubled or close to tripled depending on the players I am with considering we are all going for one item and that item will be given to one person.
Imagine going for the psycho wand and a rare lily appears. I am the only force in the group so obviously it will go to me when/if it drops. Now when I kill it there is 2x or 3x the chance that it will drop for someone in the group. It massively devalues the rare.

Well one thing can be said, and that is PSO is nostalgic for a lot of people. Part of that nostalgia for many is probably sharing with friends. Classic drops just feel different, and I don't think it really needed to be made inaccessible, regardless of how few people actually used it. I understand the draw and I could certainly play that way with the right people.

One thing that has become apparent with seasons, is that not being able to control who gets the drop is a hindrance to achievement grinding. I know some people here would be willing to let certain people get the drop with classic drops no matter who the item ultimately goes to.

Imagine doing months of cave runs for a Psycho Wand only to give it to someone else when it drops.

Wish it would go back, looks like he isn't going to change it so I am sadly resigning from the server. Thanks for all the fun! I hope y'all still have fun!

I feel like this thread is worthy of response from a GM or something. Losing even a handful of people due to classic drops being removed is a problem that could be fixed easily. Even just an acknowledgement.

I prefer 4 player 100% RDR and will personally never touch classic drops. However, it's obvious there's a demand for it.

I know I am relatively new to the server, but this isn't my first rodeo. Alienating the niche communities of PSO can only be a bad thing.

It's hard to please everyone. Even more so when it comes to the PSO community. I feel we've done well to give our players good options and ways to play PSO the way they like and think its a bit drastic to leave a server because the drop system is now easier. Especially when most other servers have even higher drop rates. We'll discuss.

Fine. Fine. My character will have your baby's. No need to beg. ;)

P.S. I will not play on a server that does not have tofuman caring for it.
