PSOBB ReShade Preset with Screen Space Ray Traced Global Illumination

As far as I know yes im using the latest but just to make sure I will try without using the mods on clean install and test I check back once I did it.

na new clean install did same error. I give up I think, Thanks anyway for trying ^^ I will try to see if others have had better luck maybe I can copy their files and try see if it works.

I'll make a clean install of the game and install using the files I sent you only and see what happens for me. Will update the post soon.

Okay yeah it works perfectly for me with a fresh game install and the exact files I gave you. Was just drag and drop. Couple things then:

Are you forcing MSAA or SSAA through your graphics driver? That can cause reshade to crash.

Could your antivirus be causing problems? Maybe try whitelisting the PSO install folder?

Used reshade before so im abit familier with it and modding I done alot of times in other games.. but tried this and when I try to start the game, I get Psbb.exe error could not start program (0xc0000005) pinpointed it to be the d3d8.dll file making the game crash on startup

update. using both the d3d8 or d3d9.dll's together and the game crash . taking away 1 or the other the game starts. now I understand taking away 1 of them just disabled the mod itself but maybe that info could be important for someone that understands this better.
Yoo, I'm having this same issue.

edit: resolved, see below

I was super stoked when I found this thread, as it looks lightyears better than your standard reshade setup, but it doesn't work and I get the above error.

What I did:
- Reset nvidia control panel to defaults and removed profile for PSO, saved.
- Uninstalled PSO, made sure everything in the folder was deleted and then reinstalled
- Installed Reshade, selected psobb.exe, selected directx9, downloaded all shaders
- Dragged contents of ReShade_GI_Beta_0.9.0.2.zip (Textures and Shaders folder) into EphineaPSO\reshade-shaders\
- Dragged contents of ReShade-for-PSOBB-GI-9.0.2.zip into EphineaPSO\reshade-shaders\, said yes to overwrite
- Launch game, error occurs.

Windows 10 1909, no third-party AV installed, game folder whitelisted in Defender and DEP set to essential Windows programs and services only.

Help?
Huh, I'm really at a loss. Well, standard steps first I guess. I suppose the first step is to find out if the game can run with *just* the d3d8.dll activated. You can do this by simply renaming the d3d9.dll to something else. If that crashes the game, I guess try (re)installing the directx redist:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35. I'd be shocked if this fixed it on a Windows 10 machine, but it's the next logical step if d3d8.dll crashes the game.

Reshade also requires .NET Framework 4.5 or higher. If you haven't used reshade in a long time, it's possible it didn't have this requirement in older versions. Wouldn't hurt to try (re)installing that too.
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-framework/thank-you/net48-web-installer

If neither of these work, I'd be willing to work with either of you in discord or w/e to get to the bottom of it, should you care enough to solve the problem.

Alright so I worked with the other dude and we found out that compatibility mode for windows xp service pack 2 breaks it. Is that something you have set? If so, try disabling it.

@ZabaZu I cannot find the shader qUINT_rtgi.fx anywhere in the installer list or in your initial post link.
You posted this image to help get us started but I can't find that option.

RTGI is the paid for shader I mention in the post. You have to back his patreon, $5 tier. Alternatively there's a preset that makes use of MXAO which is free and still very good, just won't get indirect lighting.

Btw, that's a screenshot of a pretty old version of rtgi settings, it doesn't apply to the current version.

Just posted an update for the preset. Please let me know if there are any issues, either on here or by contacting me on discord (username in the OP).

Edit: Follow the instructions in the first post.

Thought I would write an in depth guide to get everything running.
1. Download Reshade with full add-on support: https://reshade.me/
2. Join McFly's patreon (just the $5 dollar tier) and go to their Discord > downloads-level-1 channel and download the latest IMMERSE Pro zip file: https://www.patreon.com/mcflypg
3. Start installing Reshade > Navigate to EphineaPSO folder > Point it to PsoBB.exe > Choose Microsoft DirectX 10/11/12 > Uncheck all effects in the "Select effects to install" screen > In the "Select add-ons to install screen, check ReshadeEffectShaderToggler (REST)", then hit next to finish setup.
4. Set Ephinea launcher to DirectX11 (crashes might occur using other versions), then launch the game. Reshade will setup after you launch.
5. Hit the Home key > Add-ons tab on Reshade > Check Reshade Effect Shader Toggler then close the game.
6. Open the IMMERSE Pro zip file and Navigate to the EphineaPSO > reshade-shaders folder. Drag and drop the Shaders and Textures into the reshade-shaders folder.
7. I've attached a test.ini Reshade preset file (with RTGI settings on low so it won't explode potato PCs) and ReshadeEffectShaderToggler.ini file in this post. Rename the .txt to .ini and drop both in the EphineaPSO folder.
8. Relaunch the game and hit Home to bring up the Reshade menu. iMMERSE: Launchpad should be at the top of the list checked with iMMERSE Pro: RTGI below it checked as well.
9. Everything should work as normal. Go to settings >Effect toggle key and bind whatver button you want there to turn reshade on and off.
10. Adjust settings in the Launchpad and RTGI settings to your liking. I've attached my personal preset here (rtgi_sharp_bloom) which also enables texture sharpening (iMMERSE Pro: Clarity - haloing and artifacts are minimal) along with bloom (iMMERSE Pro: Solaris - effect is not overbearing)

Notes: As far as I know, theres no way to fix symbol art and speech bubbles from being partially transparent sometimes or drawing light on the scene.
Thanks for posting this, I really need to come back with a new one that's actually setup for the updates that shader has seen (and the newer ones I use now).

You actually can get it to render behind the UI and even the fog in CCA, I made a separate thread for that a while back actually lol. You'll need to use DX11 (which you're already doing of course) and you also have to use Solybum's addon for the REST addon to have the right hook points.

RTGI is getting another big update this month so I'll try to get an updated preset in here so it's not an overly confusing endeavor lol. There are also some free screen space ray tracing shaders now that I haven't really messed with, but supposedly some of those are pretty good. Honestly, most of the reason I've held out is that I was hoping RTX Remix was gonna get compatibility with this game and make it irrelevant :(.

Wasn't aware that Soly's addon was needed (I always have it installed). If you don't mind testing my toggler and personal preset .ini's, I'd like to see if everything works fine on your end too. It was a nightmare trying to get everything right without messing up the shaders and in-game assets.

Preset file works for me. The only difference between our toggler presets is that is that I also include a pixel shader which fixes some of the flickering on and off issues, but we're including the same vertex shader hash. I don't play a ton of this game these days (just pop on every once in a while as a comfort game), but the only thing I've seen that breaks it is the VR Temple boss fight.

[Group0_VertexShaders]
ShaderHash0=2028682045
AmountHashes=1

[Group0_PixelShaders]
ShaderHash0=2227709529
AmountHashes=1

As a lazy post with basically no instructions and quality levels set way higher than needed, here's my updated preset that you can throw into the reshade installer (and my shader list in case anything is missing). You also will need to have REST setup otherwise bloom, depth haze, and motion blur will ruin the HUD. If you don't want motion blur, disable vort motion.

Marty updated the shaders which definitely makes lighting more uniform and doesn't blow out certain areas with bright lighting (Episode 2 Pioneer 2 warps being most noticeable.) There's also a new global preprocessor definition which probably isn't intended for PSO since there's no DLSS or FSR settings, but the setting still works regardless seems like. It gives me a performance boost with it enabled with no quality loss seems like.
Click Edit global preprocessor definitions on the reshade screen and hit the + icon and add _MARTYSMODS_TAAU_SCALE
Variables are: DLSS_QUALITY, DLSS_BALANCED, DLSS_PERFORMANCE, DLSS_ULTRA_PERFORMANCE, FSR_ULTRA_QUALITY, FSR_QUALITY, FSR_BALANCED, FSR_PERFORMANCE or you can enter numbers 0.1-1.

Alright, updated presets again for the newest RTGI, this time with an ultra and balanced option. Presets attached, same shaders used as the quoted post. An updated install guide (and some screenshots) will be added to the OP Soon™ OP updated with instructions and images. And once again, if you don't want motion blur, disable vort_motion.
