is there any chance of the Schthack PSO2 server getting us shut down?

I forgot to mention sometimes they can try the DMCA scare tactic against the dns/host providers rather than the people and may be more successful if the user refuses to shutdown his own server (since the provider doesn't want to be involved in legal issues). That's the only way I can see them doing something worthwhile against the private servers. It's more of an annoyance if you have external backups though as you can just rehost anywhere (Ideally somewhere that doesn't bother with such emails after you got hit once).

And yet SEGA did nothing about that so it's safe to assume they really don't give a damn.

I'm just under the assumption PSO2 is making SEGA a ton more money than PSO ever did.

(I could be very very wrong)

I don't think so (that you are wrong), because for certain things you need to keep the "subscription".
For example, gaining access to extra space in blocks (which usually get full AF during EQs), some people need to hoard items like no one ever did so they have to buy extra storage, etc...

They sell cosmetics too, right?

That'd be the big one.

I mean fuck, look at League of Legends... LOL

Not sure, don't remember if they do it, but you can gamble for cosmetics.
So its like even worse?

Ah yes the old Korean MMORPG gambling strat. Kids stealing mommy and daddy's credit card and spending $1k to get the skin they want. People with jobs saying "I'll just eat ramen this month" and spending $1k to get the skin they want.

Ragnarok Online does this. It's terrible. (Almost as terrible as their other shady tactics - like nerfing items and removing NPCs to get you to buy new shit LOL)

Crono made thousands on that shitty toaster of a server.

You know, knowing this I still find it hard to give a damn on this little thing alone. Good on him man. I never spent a dime from 2008 or so til when the thing crashed and burned

The thing that actually bugs me is how other things happened such as hearing about how some people who donated got banned cause the mods didn't communicate with each other about who had what and so on.

Maybe its for the best I can't read the moon runes on PSO2 since I finally gave in and started to play it.

So many products are around cause of stuff like this. Second Life for example, but its even worse IMO.

None of PSO2's problems come from its real money system (although the recent Star Gem system is most certainly becoming a problem), so I wouldn't worry about that.

You're not locked out of anything if you don't pay anymore, since you get 3 free character slots (enough to specialise in each attack), and trading (basically shops, nobody actually trades) is pretty free now since Excubes are so common.

It's a huge cash cow anyway though, because people love buying scratches for meseta or for cosmetics. The dress-up appeal on PSO2 is huge.

My understanding is that PSO2 is a waifu dress-up game disguised as an MMO.

Before Christian turned douche, he explained to me some other things, namely that his server was totally from scratch and didn't break any laws that he looked into. Of course, if you took Ed to court over """donations""" (which Chrisitan also basically did but it was almost completely under the table)....well it's a good thing he never got enough donations to be noticed. Thousands is a lot to the every day man, but even PSO made a fair bit more than that up to it's death.

However, to do PSU (and probably PSO2) he needed to bypass SSL, which is illegal. (this isn't tied to EULA)

Regardless, all PSO EULAs are not legally binding in the US. Can't speak for those outside of it

Just saying that the English patches for pso2 really only affect about 10% of the total text around in pso2.
