Introducing PSO Seasons on Ephinea

Aye in Hardcore, season will be rough.
There will be no reserve of dolls, no premade mags, no gear to twink.
We will die easier since there will be no reserve, and we will lose everything, since there will be no shared storage.

Gotta be smart and work all together.

Take it as a long challenge mode.
Not expert at all in this but the favorite class is HUcast there, for its high HP/ATP.
And FO's are a necessity.

Favorize high HP, and decent offensive.
Leave the support to he FO's if you not confident enough.
For solo'ing HUney be good, but reminder, shes the lowest HP of the Hunters.

That my point of view.
Will be a blast :D

While I won't be participating in this immediately, one thing I recommend for future seasons is going the "Path of Exile" route.

In Path of Exile, every 4 months is a new season, or 'league'. During the league (and not as a part of the core game) a new mechanic is added to the game as a method of challenging the players who participate. Players who complete a list of tasks during the league are rewarded regardless of their character class or level. At the end of the league characters are rolled into the standard server, developers review the mechanic and determine if or how they might add it to the core game moving forward. Some have been wildly successful, others have been scrapped or made obscure or limited due to failure (some items exist in their core server, but are impossible to obtain anymore).

I'd personally be much more inclined to play in an experimental 'challenge' season than a vanilla one. While I don't know how broadly PSO can be modded, it'd be a neat testing grounds for features that may otherwise never get put into the core game without testing reception first, and/or an opportunity to add these experimental features as new quests. (ie. enemies spawning in the wrong map, palette swaps like Ultimate, new weapons and gear that twist the game without breaking it, etc.)

Of course I'd be clueless whether or not this idea is feasible or remotely acceptable in PSO's handle of game data.

We've already considered having Seasons with some sort of focus / twists, although whether it'll happen is another thing.

This Season specifically exists because people wanted to experience the "new server experience" once again, where you play the game without people to powerlevel you, without people to give you free gear that is taken for granted and where everyone always has something to be doing since they have nothing, nor does anyone else.

What we'll do with Seasons after this depends on reception. We won't do anything too crazy though, so we're not going to do Seasons with modified items or new items or anything like that, as Ephinea is a classic/vanilla server, so those things will never change.

Would new Seasons specific quests work?
I'm learning to do quests, and some basic one's based on time where the best you do, the better base items you get

If you don't mind me asking, could we potentially switch the section ID of a character after the season ends? I potentially want to make a redria seasons character, for example, but I have one that is already a decent level. I could potentially make a seasons character for redria drop charts, but after seasons is over, I could switch it to a different ID for other hunts (because redria is already well covered).

Either way, I'm looking forward to this. It'll hopefully be a great time. :p

Also, at the end of the season, your seasonal characters will convert to a normal character of whatever account type the character was made on.

You should add an option to "exit" the season prematurely if you wish.

Reasons someone might want to do this: they find an epic item (eg: 100 hit SJS) by fluke chance, and want to sell it immediately rather than waiting for the end of the season to have access to it.

It would work yeah, although not going to do any for this one since we want this one to be as simple and vanilla as possible. (basically that's the "theme" of this Season: Back to Basics)

I love this! I play mostly because im addicted #1, no sense in trying to rationalize it. Its been 17 years. #2. I love playing with this community. Ive met a lot of great people/players on this server and i love the idea of us all starting a fresh char and playing together. Its like the best part of the game imo.

Fine by me! It doesn't bother me any. I will however be grabbing my popcorn....

If something does drop...

Because it's not just the person who found it who will be causing a ruckus for 3 months. The entire community of potential buyers will be in chaos too. It'll be fun to watch.

(If it happens)

Doesn't matter, I'll just ignore them. There is no need for everyone to always get their own way and it creates too much of a headache to add a tracker just to track people who wanted to exit early due to greed to distribute achievement rewards to later. Unless they're okay with forfeiting any rewards for their progress. Well, no, even then I wouldn't do it. I just don't feel like it, honestly.

Sometimes doing this stuff and trying to implement things as people request takes up too much of my time. I don't get paid to run this server. It is a hobby for me. And I like to have a life too. So, yeah, if it happens, they're free to cry for the remainder of the 3 month season. I personally don't care.

The real crying will be when Soda gets fed up with everyone complaining and just shuts the server down.

Ima prolly go with a racast. Cause i lika the traps. I think FO's will have the most challenging role as there will be no one to hand them off a pile of higher lvl techs. But i bet they will be the most fun. especially a melee fo.

Yeah, it'll be fun to try a Fomar with a pow/dex mag build. time to research a good sectionid.

THIS IS EXCITING!!!!

yeah i'm making a ramar, i need a blue id but if we can change after seasons then i'll go with another one (since blue would not be great for seasons).

Hopefully this can be clarified before it starts.
LF to it.
