Im worried about the future of this server.

obviously what will happen is mrs o'sega's cow will knock over the servers and start a fire

Ephinea is here to offer a PSO experience somewhat similar to the original, with some tweaks, not an overhaul.
I find it hard to believe that personally given the amount of changes that have been introduced. It's hardly just a vanilla recreation with "a few tweaks" anymore. I think you'd be greatly underselling one of Ephinea's greatest selling points to advertise it as such. I would refer to it as the natural evolution of the vanilla Sega experience (it isn't really vanilla truly anymore, but for the sake of argument we will just say that it is).

I think personally it's a little bit interesting to see people get so worried about PSO2 NA release "killing" PSO. There are a total of 3 main big servers still around and all three of them have experienced some amount of player loss in population because of PSO2 NA release. This is nothing new, when PSO2 JP released we saw the same thing. People returned when they got bored. PSO2, I don't think, can even kill PSO even if Sega really wanted it to.

It's been said before and I'll be one to say it again: When people play PSO2 and get bored they will begin to become nostalgic. There's something in every major server for everybody and nothing will ever change that. Ephinea is most populated now, but most populated/popular is not the thing I would be worried about. What I would be more concerned with is something that Schthack has already gone through twice now, which is rebuilding the server's identity. Keep that identity strong and you'll never find yourself in a situation like Schthack has found itself in a couple of times now. Like I said, being most popular/populated isn't as important as maintaining an identity and interest in those that the server interests. You don't try to become something for everybody, you find something the server is good at and stick with it. People that enjoy that about the server will eventually come in time.

It's easy to see PSO2 for everything it does better
- Fast paced fluid gameplay
- More skill options for combat
- More diversity when it comes to areas/monsters
- Great character visuals customization (Outfits, character creator, etc.)

But let's not forget everything it does worse
- Cluttered unintuitive menus everywhere (A lot of which you will never know what they even do if you're playing casually)
- Poorly designed overly complex mechanics that have no added enjoyment benefits (Augments, crafting, etc.)
- Useless game modes that have literally no userbase despite the high playercount (Challenge mode, Time attack, Exploration, Sub missions, etc.)
- The better game modes locked behind specific dates/timezones (Let's be honest, people only play Urgent/Ultimate quests once they hit max level and urgent quests may not even show up once while you are online. That means you are left with 2 missions to play the rest of the time = boring)
- Story mode that starts up as utter mess where everyone going in needs to skip all cutscenes to actually remain sane (The horribly poor pacing actually gets better over time, but kills most players out of the mode)
- A lot of important features locked behind a paywall. Some you can get free tickets if you find out how to, but again not intuitive and pointless. (New mag/mag reset, skill point reset, Material storage, Auction house, Personal Quarter, Trading, etc.)
- Quests and missions that make no sense (Getting a PSE burst in casino is a quest, really SEGA?)

The design of a good game is to have a lot of options, but also to keep the game simple enough that you don't need to read guides to understand how to play. PSO2 doesn't let you experiment with anything and thus force players to use builds other players have made because people are scared of messing up their character completely. I could list more issues, but I think the point is made clear that I'm hoping alot for this upcoming PSO2 New Genesis. Again, no game is perfect.

I do believe the older PSO versions thrive in their simplicity and is most likely why vanilla still remains the most popular mode even to this day. I don't see PSO2 being a threat to these private servers overall. Let's see what New Genesis has to offer when it comes out.

I’m with the other guy.

The staff doesn’t need to give you or anyone updates about anything.

Also in regards to events, should they happen, should be looked at as a bonus to playing on the server and not just expected to happen.

The staff have lives, you know. We aren’t paid for this and it is a hobby, but the PSO server is a much lower priority than other things like going to real work to pay the bills, taking care of our family, and anything else we may be up to outside of here.

Even if, say, you see us playing some other game and delaying your expected event, there is nothing wrong with that. That’s what we want to do in that time and we’re more than justified to do what we want when we get free time. There is no set schedule for anything, nor will we ever follow one.

You could then argue that, well, we should pass the server to other people who have less of a life or more free time to devote to it... but, naaaaah. Would rather not.

If that makes you want to explode in anger or leave, well.. so, be it.

You don’t pay to play and this isn’t SEGA or some other entity that owes you anything at all for your time here.

I'd rather have a server that never dies - even if I'm the only one playing and there are no events - than have a server that has regular events for 5 years then shuts down. I'm here because it seems like both the most reliable long term server, and the server most in tune with what PSO was meant to be to me.

im worried about animes future

the person, although apparently all those cartoon studios are closing down too

(also nobody leaves pso for pso2 or vice versa unless they simply lack time)

im just being honest if u guys that spent all thos years setting this server up dont care if anyone plays here well thats youre choice and i never said anyone owed me anything i hardly play here now as it is i was responding to the person who started this post with honest criticism some people can take it others cant (SIDE NOTE i would have donated to this server long ago if u guys accepted donations thats ur guys choice to not accept donations for the work u put in)
