im stuck on step 3

im trying to figure out where i can adjust resolutions. the game wont launch. it tells me to please close the program in a small window.

3. When setting a resolution for Ephinea PSOBB, make sure to set a resolution that fits within
your monitor's maximum resolution and one that is defined in your video card's control panel.
If the set resolution exceeds what your monitor is capable or if the resolution selected is not
present in your video card's control panel, Ephinea PSOBB will fail to start.

i really dont understand this part? i cant find the resolution they are talking about. i right click the game and go to properties i got to the compatibility tab and change the screen resolution but the game still wont launch.
i managed to switch the DEP and im on my systems most modern .net. I disabled windows defender, i right clicked my screen went down to "screen resolution" and set them all to "recommended"
so i think ive done step 1 step 2 step 4 and step 5 from the read me. i also uninstalled the game deleted the zip then re downloaded everything.
i have a asus laptop with intel core i5 geforce gt. is it just not possible for me to play the game? ive been at this for about 7 hours and i cant tell if ive made any progress.
 
Any old computer can run the game. I don't know much but you probably definitely not using the right launcher to start the game. The correct 1 will load a ton of options before you even can start being in-game.
 
when i downloaded the game i opened it from the installer it put the game launcher and read me short cuts on my desktop. when i click the game launcher it fails before it starts and says "a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. please close the program"
but some of the apps in the folder open.

examples: the "PsoBB" app opens to a window and displays the login screen
after i put in my info and press start game it says "Your client is too old. Please update your client using the launcher" so i go to patch download it says "no files found" if i try to start the game it loads for a second and then closes the app.

if i click on "online_compat" it opens a tiny display with pso online bb it looks like a game cover.
options are "start game official site official billing site options credits cancel"
clicking start game takes me back to the above example. if i click on options i get a menu with sliders on it. i set it to low end and the game didnt launch then i set it to high end and the game didnt launch.

maybe its possible i still have some antivirus? but im not getting any messages about it anymore. when i click on windef now it says "this app is turned off by group policy" so i think its off now. i also managed to delete MacAfee which im actually happy about. i managed to find a list on firewall setting and added a bunch of the games files too it but it had no effect.

i think im just not good enough with computers to do this. i use to play pso ep I&II on my gamecube and just thought it would be cool to play with other people for once. this actually happens to me alot. the last game i tried to download i couldn't figure out how to play either. everyone makes it look so easy?

im not sure where to go from here. i was never able to figure out "whitelisting" either so i did my best to disable windef. i feel like there's a button or something somewhere i could press to fix this but i just don't understand what's wrong.

Ignore the readme.txt instructions. Those are ancient and will probably be removed at some point. The resolution it's referring to is in the options for the launcher. The launcher is online.exe.

You need to run online.exe to patch the game to fix the "Your client is too old" error when trying to login.

Online.exe shouldn't need any compatibility settings, so make sure you revert any you enabled. That exception code is because of unknown software, so either you set online.exe's compatibility settings to something or you somehow have a really bad install, probably the former.

Also it's usually a good idea to not install things inside your downloads folder. Honestly I would just reinstall the game at this point, place it somewhere like C:\EphineaPSO for simplicity, and then run online.exe from that folder. Once it loads and patches your game, you'll need to click the Options button on the left to set a resolution.

the "online" file just crashes i cant run it. im still not having any progress i cant open the launcher.
i downloaded to a folder above my downloads. reloading it seems to have erased any changes i made. the "online" file doesnt have a .exe attached? i looked at the file and in it says "old file name online.exe" i dont know about any extra software i followed the faq guide and downloaded the x64 and x86 things.
after everything i did the file acts exactly the same as when i first downloaded it. just crashes instantly.
what should i do now?
