DS Lite vs N3D's (Nintendo 3-Ds)

I've been debating on whether or not to upgrade to a N3Ds' and trying to find a copy of Etrian Odysse, so is it worth it?
 
i dont know exactly what you're talking about so im gonna guess
2ds is kinda butts in the form factor but otherwise you don't miss too much when you take away 3d (imo.) n3ds is a little snappier compared to an o3ds, you do need it for ... one game so far ... and i hear the 3d is much easier to use. the little nub / circle pad pro replacement is alright. the folding probably still causes those shitty dust marks with the little nubs if your pockets are tighter. i leave a glass cloth in just in case.

o3ds is easier to mod if you want homebrew and free games. as for eterian oddysey, not my type of game, so no help there!

The reason I ask is my ds lite is old and I hope it will continue to work a few more years. I need to find a replacement that isn't too expensive. I probably should avoid the 2d's since I heard it doesn't handle certain games very well. N3D's is probably a better choice though the library of games doesn't look very good.
 
If you're wanting to play new-gen games, you are going to have to upgrade to one of the 3DS models at some point anyway.

That being said, you'll want to go for a N3DS imo because they'll probably end up doing more exclusive games for it (just like XC3D). I'm still on a 3DS XL but I don't plan to upgrade unless there's a game I really want.
 
I just use a DSlite with a CycloDS modchip @_@
then again all I ever play is Phoenix Wright ayy lmao
 
I currently run with a black 3ds XL I bought maybe 2 years ago, but if I were you, I'd just get a pre-owned N3Ds XL for like ~$150, since pre-owned 3DS XL are like 120ish anyway, and the n3ds are actually a good bit more ergonomic and the ability to use the 3d slider for more than 20 mins at a time without hurting your eyes is pretty nice.
 
n3ds has way better 3d as well, can see it from most any angle (people beside you can even see it ok) vs the reg 3ds where the 3d has to be viewed from a very specific angle right in front for decent results
n3ds loads faster and more stable/higher fps and smoother gfx for games like monster hunter 4u, so i assume on other games as well

if i was gonna invest in anything myself it would be n3dsxl
 
My brother and I are owners of 3DS's, he got a New 3DS XL and I have an original 3DS XL. We live in the same house and decided he would buy the Etrian Odyssey Untold games since I bought the 4 preceding games (I - II - III and IV).
In case you (OP) don't know, the Untold series of games are remakes of the first installments with huge improvements so get Etrian Odyssey Untold - The Millenium Girl if you plan on playing an EO game and feel like starting at the "first" of the series.
The newest entry is Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold - The Fafnir Knight.

There's also Etrian Mystery Dungeon which is cool.

As for your dilemma, you have to know that there is the same resolution on both 3DS and 3DSXL, XL got a plus which is it's bigger screen which (to me) is worth it despite it's downside, which is there's more aliasing on it (or rather it's made more noticeable due to lower pixel density than on non-XL).
As for the New3DS, I don't know, not many games use the extra power... Xenoblade Chronicles off the top of my head. Whether or not this justifies the extra 50 bucks... I don't know.

I think the New 3DS is worth it, for sure. I had a DS Lite and skipped the original 3DS. New 3DS has a number of good games for it and it's pretty fun to play. I enjoyed Persona Q as well as Super Mario 3D Land, but I have a bunch of other good games on there like Zero Escape Virtue's Last Reward and uh... yeah!! MORE GAMES, OMG ALL THE GAMES...

I agree with these two here... except I haven't played Persona Q or Zero Escape lol but you get the point.

Which is a good one to start with for newcomers to the franchise; to be honest I'm kinda bored of how easy modern day Nintendo games are now.

Also I forgot to ask. Is the N3Ds' backwords compatible? I hate to upgrade and not be able to play my ds or gba games.
 
It won't work with your GBA games. It will work with DS games.

You can get a very few GBA games as VC titles if you have the ambassador thing going for you, but. That was for people who got suckered into an OG 3DS, who wanted MML3, like me. Otherwise you have to mod your 3DS because Nintendo doesn't want them for some reason.

I'd say "Etrian Odyssey Untold - The Millenium Girl" is the best game for a newcomer to the franchise. (you can change difficulty anytime in town). The modes are :
- Picnic: 30% damage taken, 2x damage dealt, 1 retry per trip to the labyrinth.
- Standard: 100% damage taken, you might get a small increase to damage dealt and you get 1 retry per trip to the labyrinth.
- Expert: 160% damage taken, no retries so game over means game over.

Picnic is too easy period. Standard is challenging. Expert is hard !

Thanks MagicLuthee, I'll keep that in mind. I'm still debating on getting one though I've become picky about what to buy.
