Ephinea Summer Scavenger Event 2017
Duration: June 4 to July 2
Ephinea's Summer Scavenger Event has started!

Across Ragol, 10 section ID badges will be dropping from specific unknown monsters. These badges will only drop on their respective IDs, and collecting several or all of them will net you great prizes, including a Photon Sphere if you manage to get them all.

It's up to the community to find out where all the badges are: The question is, will you share the badge drops if you find one or keep it to yourself to farm the badges for yourself?

Note: This reward quest isn't up just yet.

Badge Locations (Ultimate Only)

Viridia Badge: Del Lily (Uncommon)
Greenill Badge: Sinow Red (Common)
Skyly Badge: Merissa AA (Very Rare)
Bluefull Badge: Vulmer (Common)
Purplenum Badge: Gal Gryphon (Rare)
Pinkal Badge: Episode 1 Gulgus-gue (Rare)
Redria Badge: Episode 2 Baranz (Rare)
Oran Badge: Dark/Death Gunner (Common)
Yellowboze Badge: Ze Boota (Uncommon)
Whitill Badge: Sinow Zoa (Uncommon)

The rates are in these ballparks:

Common - 9★ Rare (e.g. LK14)
Uncommon - 10★ Rare (e.g. Red Weapons)
Rare - Higher-end 10★ Rare (e.g. like Guren)
Very Rare - 11★ Rare (e.g. like HS/Lame)

Hints and Information

Skyly

There's probably a group for this.

To get you started, here is some information to lead you in the right direction:

  • Each area only drops 1 section ID badge
    • This means if one drops in Ruins, there are no other badges in Ruins.
    • Temple is not featured in this event.
  • The following enemies do not drop badges due to multiple areas or split (or just plain unfair):
    • Mericarol
    • Merikle
    • Mericus
    • Gibbles
    • Gi Gue
    • Delbiter
    • Recobox
    • Recon
    • Satellite Lizard
    • Yowie
    • Sand Rappy
    • Del Rappy
    • Zu
    • Pazuzu
    • Hidoom
    • Migium
    • Bulk
    • Kondrieu
  • All other enemies can potentially drop a badge, including bosses and rare enemies
We may release hints as the event goes on depending on your progress, so make sure you stay tuned! You may use this thread to post your findings as well.

Rewards

Depending on how many badges you give, you can claim different rewards! Note that you will need specific badges to trade in due to PSOBB's quest framework not allowing parts of a set, but they are tiered appropriately.

You can claim one reward in the list per set of badges at a time (there is no limit).

3 Badges (Greenill, Bluefull and Oran)
- Cat Ears
- Bunny Ears
- 3 Photon Drops

6 Badges (Viridia, Greenill, Bluefull, Oran, Yellowboze and Whitill)
- Item Ticket
- 10 Photon Drops

9 Badges (All except Skyly)
- Heart of Morolian
- Pioneer Parts
- 30 Photon Drops

All Badges
- Photon Sphere

Might sound like a stupid question, but it is a relevant one: Do the badges only drop for their corresponding IDs? I can't be sure by just reading the above. x)

Yes, they do. Would be a bit pointless if they didn't.

Phew, interesting! Gonna be really difficult funding those, especially Skyly seems like it will be a pain. My bet is on Kondrieu, lol.

Thanks for the event! Time to do some scavenging...

1 badge per area means you only get, for example, Oran only in Ruins 2 where you can get Whitill in Ruins 3? Or does it mean that if Oran drops in Ruins, No other ID will drop in any Ruins? I don't quite understand what that statement means.

Areas as a whole, not specific.

So the latter.

Oh, I just realized something: If only one ID Badge drops per area, then we might already be able to exclude enemies that show up in multiple areas, like Delbiters (CCA and Seabed) and Lizards (Crater and Sub Deserst), to drop ID Badges. These enemies drop the same stuff (rares, ateast) regardless of the area they are found in, after all, so any Badges from them would drop in more than one area.

...maybe I am wrong, though, and the Staff made the game also check the area when deciding if a Badge drops or not. Then we might have to hunt for enemies in a specific area only.

Looking forward to seeing how this is gonna play out!

//Edit: I typed this up while the two posts above appeard and Matt's words are a little ambiguous... so nothing is sure for now. :3 Interesting!

Hmm I guess this is good for ppl who have access to multiple IDs. But even if not, it will promote playing more with other players to get the right room IDs. Which is always a good thing

Also I have some summer gold badges left from last summer. What will happen to those and/or the summer badge shop?

edit: nevermind i read the other post!

Any difficulty? What stop us from giving gear to new chars and get all the badges once we know their drops?

Looks like playing the "Lost" quests, starting with the common IDs, skipping Temple, and looping back around would be best. Since Lost Son Hopkins is down, regular Desert or the Mop Ups would do.

We should find the most common ones first. That way, we know that no other ID badges will drop in those areas.

Is the badge dependant on the person who makes the room? Or how is the ID badge that drops determined?

Actually no, those quests are supposed to be exempt (Episode 2/4 Lost, anyway), since they just have lots of every enemy in them. Seems it slipped through, will be re-added.

And it depends on the room ID like every other drop.

Hmm ok, I see. Also, these badges drop in solo mode as well? As long as it's ultimate?

Basically what I'm trying to understand about these badges is how much of a normal drop they are. Given that they have some unique properties, I'm not sure how much applies to them that applies to normal drops. Example, does luck boost the rate for these drops, or are these badges unaffected by luck?

They work like normal drops, although they are additional drops and do not replace any rares.

I've updated the thread with all the information, so it should all be clear now. Note that anyone who has found badges already, I've swapped a few around as there was an issue where all badges were dropping on all IDs (oops...), so they won't be there anymore.

A Sphere is worth 99 PDs, so I'm foregoing all of the optimal hunts for a chance to find badges that could add up to a 99 PD reward, or I could continue just playing whatever and hunting optimally, and very well find something worth 99+ PDs.

I'm happy there's an Event, but usually the Event outweighs the main content enough that the Event is the clear winner. I don't feel like this is the case here, unfortunately.

Again, grateful that we're getting new stuff, but I'm not sure about the execution of this one. I think honesty is important.

(I suppose it would be possible to win one more than one Sphere doing this, but that depends on how rare the "Very Rare" badge is.)

I feel like there's been an attitude lately with both HBR and with recent quest removals / nerfs that punishes people for thinking and playing optimally. It's natural for the logical mind to do this, and it's not good to punish it. You can nerf / exempt things, and the players will find the next most optimal thing. Then you can nerf that, and so on, and eventually there will be nothing but Free Field left, and people will be bored because there's no danger or challenge.

I agree that things like Wrath of Forest and Path to Salvation had to go, but Fragment of Memory should be the accepted limit for "intensity" given how long the game has been around, and how well-geared many players are. It's not fun to play Endless Nightmare 1 when you can obliterate everything and there's hardly any heavy enemies.
