Game crashing after about 15ish minutes.

The game used to crash now and then, citing a DirectX 3D something or other being lost but it seems that that is no longer happening. It seemed to stop around the time I installed the addon manage and such. But in its place came a new issue where the game crashes at random with no error message, usually within the span of one run of TTF, which to my observation is like... 15ish minutes?

I do have a tech particle pack installed, as well as a replacement UI, however... A friend of mine who has been experiencing this same issue for much longer, has neither installed, so I am not necessarily inclined to believe those are the problem. Theirs seems to be caused by going through a telepipe/warp or just turning in a quest? It does seem like it could be a graphical issue, perhaps, I do know that outside of the very specific settings I've narrowed down, things seem to run quite slowly.

I'm kind of at my wits end because I love this game so much but it's deeply demotivating to constantly crash, mostly because I feel bad for the parties I've involuntarily left hanging.

I'm not the most tech-savy but am more than capable of following simple instructions if anyone has suggestions. One of the more frustrating parts of this crashing is that it isn't repeatable at will. It can be depended upon to occur within an amount of time but not upon any specific trigger, so testing things is a bit of a hassle.

I've managed to track down the exact error, as Windows Event Viewer lists it but googling that exact error hasn't come up with anything, even in general. The type, yes... Type 5, but not this specific string of numbers. Unsure if that's relevant but I'll list it below.

Fault bucket 1506840856931112553, type 5
Event Name: BEX
Response: Not Available
Cab Id: 0

Problem signature:
P1: PsoBB.exe
P2: 0.0.0.0
P3: 00000000
P4: KERNELBASE.dll
P5: 10.0.26100.2894
P6: 20472f23

Source: Windows Error Reporting
Event ID: 1001
Level: Unknown
Time Logged: 1/26/2025 10:41 PM

Can't tell you where that crash is in kernelbase.dll. You say you're crashing often--what are the other crashes like? Also the event viewer info you pasted is from Windows Error Reporting as a source. Just before that, you should have an Error level event for an Application Error source that has the actual useful info (although in this instance, it's in kernelbase.dll so I couldn't tell you where that crash happened).

The info from the event should look like this:
Fault offset: 0x00c27636
Faulting process id: 0x0x8E20
Faulting application start time: 0x0x1DB6E22D6905FE0
Faulting application path: C:\EphineaPSO\psobb.exe
Faulting module path: C:\EphineaPSO\ephinea.dll

Where I would need only Fault Offset and the final component of faulting module path, so 0x00c27636 and ephinea.dll in this case.

Thanks for being so quick! Wow.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you were looking for, given this part
Where I would need only Fault Offset and the final component of faulting module path, so 0x00c27636 and ephinea.dll in this case.
which I didn't really understand o_O

Apologies for that. If this isn't what you need, I'll do my best to find it tomorrow, if you can give me a bit of instruction on how to do so.

I'm not sure if it will matter but I'm launching the game exe itself (not the ephinea launcher) through Steam, if that matters. I had difficulty making my controller work without Steam's input stuff. I did notice that sitting in the Lobby itself for well over 30 minutes did not cause a crash.

Thanks again!

What about the other crashes? You said you're crashing often, right? Are they all the same fault offset and faulting module path?

I actually didn't see many others like this in the modern event viewer despite that it keeps happening but perhaps I haven't looked thoroughly enough. I'll upload them tomorrow!

Apologies for taking so long. Today was very busy and chaotic. But I've tracked down as many as I could find. I hope I got it right, we'll see! I feel a bit bad about taking so long, especially given your prompt response time and wanted to say thank you again for that! But you know how life is.

Here they are, all of them I could find.

I don't know what the crash in kernelbase could be and I don't want to find a matching DLL to check, but it's probably a super generic/common function.

What settings are you using in the launcher options (first page)? Have you tried using the default settings on a fresh install? Virtual Fullscreen, Direct3D 8, no anti-aliasing, no anisotropic filtering, and see how that works?

I haven't tried that but I'll do so in just a little bit and get you the exact details of what settings are being used currently before trying it. Thank you!

These are the settings I had on before. Going to test it in a bit!

My game stopped crashing after simply turning the settings to what you suggested, didn't even need to do a fresh install, and so I slowly added more things in to narrow down the issue and it was indeed, antialiasing I think, which I didn't have turning up to a taxing setting or anything, I think but regardless, thank you so much for helping me. My friend is still having the same crashes off and on despite us trying similar settings to those suggested. I have a suspicion it's his ultrawide monitor's resolutiion in some way, but...

Regardless, is it alright to have them post similar screenshots and see if there is a suggestion or would it be best for them to make their own thread about the issue?

Looking at your screenshots, you were trying to use SSAA 4x. That's actually a very intense antialiasing option. (2560x1440 with SSAA 4x actually renders the game at 10240x5760 and increases VRAM usage as well.)

I'd lower it down to SSAA 2x or maybe even just use SMAA Ultra and you'll be fine.

Also, I don't recommend Direct3D9 on 12, I'd go with D3D11 or D3D12.

That helps a lot, thank you. I'll try that! The least time I tried to move direct3d up at all, eeeeverything slowed down. but I also probably had that antialiasing on, so... ya know.

Anyway, I'll have that friend post their stuff here, I suppose, since the issue is probably related? Seems similar, anyway...?

Simular issiues, but my game crashes randomly. Like one day it crashed everytime a ttf quest was completed at the counter, but any other time it has been maybe a warp, or standing still in the poineerr 2 ep 1 bank etc... There is no pattern I can descern, I could be running through the ruins or something then the game window just goes away. I normally have my presets to high end. As I would think my gaming computer should be able to handle this ga,e with ease. Any help will be appreciated!
