Annual Drop Chart Changes

**disclaimer** I mentioned this in another topic before, and maybe its a shit dream.. but the thought of this idea keep popping up in my head so I figured id just post it. What the staff has done with the ephinea drop rates to date have been wonderful and I do think that they have done an excellent job tweaking and balancing them since the servers creation.

--- FEEL FREE TO SKIP MY WHINING BACKSTORY ---

Why do people play PSO still in 2018? Well, IMO, its because we all enjoy teaming up with our homies and finding some sweet loot.

For a while now, whenever I log to my same few characters I jog on up to the babes at the quest counter to see whats going on and 90% of the time there are no joinable ultimate games. Man that sucks! So some will say "make a game," but to be honest, i want to join a game because I am tired of running the same 3 quests on bluefull ID due to there being little incentive to run other quests. Why would I ever run EN1, PW2, or TTF when running those quests are inefficient, or the items that drop from those quests are not rewarding.

So what do I do? I farm the same items from the same quests.. over and over again.

--- ANNUAL DROP CHART CHANGE ---
I know that a lot of the drop charts are pulled from PSO:BB and some others are based on Lore. But to me.. the drop charts have become stagnant. Each ID has a few select quests that stand out among the rest in terms of rare drops, and those are the quests that are ran the most.

I would like to propose annual drop changes at the beginning of each year. By mixing up drop tables, itll get people excited to try different hunts and figure out which quests are the most optimal to farm. Due to rarity changes, item market values will change throughout the year, making the economy new and interesting. An item like smartlink could become exclusive to greenill, potentially making it a worthwhile hunt as the current supply starts to thin out. Obviously powerful items should still be more difficult to obtain, but maybe you could find an uber from a boss, or s-parts in ultimate, have a 1/200 PD drop rate from a mob to help introduce more currency into the economy, event only items could become drops, and certain drops could become event items; or maybe even Falz could have a 1/350 chance to drop a photon sphere.

There are a a lot of things that you could do with drop charts to excite the player base. It might be worth thinking about.

Yea. I like the idea of changing drops to spice things up.. but I could definitely foresee balance issues. And it would be much more work for the admins.

Allowing a couple sec I’d changes a year or something similar would be nice for sure!

I don't really like the idea. The drop charts are balanced well enough and changing them yearly would just be a lot of work for the staff that doesn't really accomplish anything. It's not their job to "make" you have fun by playing a variety of quests. You can just play the quests because you want to play them and not feel like you're wasting your time just because you're actually playing the game and not farming items I mean that's what I do- I can't stand playing the same quest over and over (unless it's TA). But people shouldn't feel like they're entitled to logging on, doing whatever they want, and getting something out of it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Really just saying screw locking you to your section id would be a life improvement. Giving players free choice over their IDs thus free control over what they want to hunt would be the real way to make hunting better IMO.

It doesn't take long to get 10 FOnewms to 80 (Less than 5 hours each at 100% EXP), give him a mag, techs + items, then spam E4. Can do each Newm in a few hours if your committed. And with the game saving the ID's you can easily hunt anything you want.

You know what takes less time? Just getting 1 Fonewn up to 80 and having the ability to switch ids freely instead of having to change out character slots, items, and gear each time.

Nothing is really stopping you from just making different characters as well and I feel a free ID choice would make some people play the "lesser" classes as well cause they wouldn't be seen as a waste of time/id (cause you can just freely change the id of your uber Hucast when you want to be serious or something)

Thanks for the reply! I agree that the unpaid admin team shouldn’t do anything that takes a substantial amount of time as they have jobs, family and friends; places where their time can be better spent. I have never been an admin, and have no clue as to how large of a project something like this would be.

But if the admin team truely didnt care if people played or enjoyed playing, then they wouldnt run events, make new quests, maintain a forum, try to improve the economy etc. but they do those things because they do want people to continue playing a game that we all love.

For me, PSOs main appeal has always been hunting for rares and I feel that, for a variety of reasons, those hunts have became stale. Im know others play for different reasons.. whether it’s just talking to friends, time attack, memes etc, but I believe something like this would allow people to hunt items in a new and interesting way. Or hunt items that they were unable to hunt before.

If your too lazy to put a tiny bit of effort into leveling a character with the ID or find a friend then what makes you think you deserve a free ID?

Also in regards to people playing lower-tier characters surely this would have the opposite effect. People level new characters often for ID's and try out other classes but if everyone could freely change ID why would they bother to play anything but the best classes (other than for fun which they would be doing already if that floats their boat). The only reason I see this being beneficial is if either 1.) People didn't know about ID's when they started (and then they have a free change upto lvl 20) and 2.) To make solo hunts easier as everyone can change good ID's to the OP classes. Anyways @Rune, before we derail this topic lets, leave it or you can make it a suggestion in another post ;)

Anyways sorry to go off-topic @Jbangalanga, I agree with Jack up there, It would be a lot of unneeded work for the staff team.

Its 20 or so hours of time or so just to level a person to level 80 and gear them up. Level 80 not for sure being fully able to handle ultimate mode though but whatever. As for your friends comment I like how you think its a good idea to just find someone and say: "hey buddy wanna hunt pwand/sjs/whatever with me or just make 100+ or so rooms for me til I can get it?"

Also in regards to people playing lower-tier characters surely this would have the opposite effect.

You saying "why not just make 12 Fonewn to get the id you want to hunt with" proves my point already on character choice man. It isn't like people are playing lower tier characters already besides those that actually truly want to. Free ID choice at least lets you run with what you want to hunt at whatever time you want and it also lets you hunt for more than just things that wouldn't be good for your character class if you get bored of a hunt on the id you are using and want to try something else for a certain time frame.

It also would let you level up lower level classes with others faster. Who really wants to join a low level pink ultimate TTF?

And I hardly see this as an off topic thing cause the OP is talking about hunts being stale and this is one of those things you could do to make hunts and the game not get boring easily.

But if OP has an issue with it I'll gladly drop it.

i mean if you really wanted freedom of id hunts, you could perhaps look into implementing a system that allows you to select the ID of the room each time so it becomes a non-issue. although i feel like that kinda breaks part of the core system of PSO, and would likely be perceived as a "non-vanilla" option.

my 2cents is that the drops are okay the way they are, but i wouldn't argue with the opportunity for a /modsecid.

Giving out a new /modsecid chance once for, say, every 200 hours of gameplay by the character might help. The opportunity should not be stackable though, imo.

This would only encourage AFK time, unfortunately.
